Description
The BBC commissioned us to write software to display approximately 10,000 postcards in an interesting matter. It can be seen on the BBC site here [1] (http://www.bbc.co.uk/africalives/biggerpicture)
Server Side
The server-side is basically just one perl script which allows a database to be built of images (front and back of the postard) and catagories which those postcards belong to, with the locations for source/destination in there to. The software also allows moderators to examine and approve or deny postcards uploaded by the public.
Client Side
The client-side is a flash application which fetches lists of cards from the server, and then shows them rotating around a globe. When the cards are clicked, you can examine them in more detail. It allows the user to filter according to the catagories mentioned in the database
Download
This software is now finished and will be put up here when we get a free minute, which at this rate is likely to be sometime in 2006.
